Introduction #1

So you want to learn Hindi? Good because you’re in the right place. Here at Languo, we’re here to help you learn languages in a friendly and easy manner where we blend aspects of both a traditional classroom setting along with a level of immersion that technology makes possible.

So what exactly is Hindi? Well, it’s one of the most spoken languages in the world with over 800 million speakers worldwide. Hindi is the official language of India and is spoken as a minority language in countries such as Guyana, the UAE, Suriname, Mauritius, Trinidad, etc. Hindi has evolved from a language called Sanskrit, an ancient language used in many classic Indian epic poems and literature. in a manner similar to how languages such as Spanish and French evolved from Latin. The scripture that is employed when writing Hindi is called Devanagari (देवनागरी). Devanagari is an abugida, a script system, in which consonants from the basic signs and are adjusted according to the vowel following the consonant. Devanagari will be introduced in a more in-depth manner later on but don’t be put off by how “strange” this seems though, because I assure you it’s easier than you think it is to learn!

Don’t worry if Hindi seems really confusing and scary to start with just keep working on it and you’ll be there in no time.
