Russian Lesson 2: Basic Conversation

Hello, welcome to another lesson in Russian.

Today we will be looking into some basic conversational vocabulary.

Basic Conversational Language

Greetings and responses-

“Здравствуйте”: a formal way of saying “hello.”

Привет”: an informal way of saying “hello”; “Hi.”


“Как у Вас дела?”:  A formal way of saying “how are you?”

“Как дела?”: An informal way of saying “how are you?”


“Доброе утро”: “Good morning.”


“Добрый день”: “Good afternoon.”


“Добрый вечер”: “Good evening.”


“Xорошо”: “Fine.”

also Нормально


“Плохо”: “Bad.”


“Как обычно”: “Like always.”


“А у Вас?”: A formal way of saying “and you?”


Introductions-

“Как вас зовут?”: A formal way of saying “what is your name?”

“Как тебя зовут?”: An informal way of saying “what is your name?”

The literal translation for both of these sayings is “what do they call you?”


“Меня зовут…:” “My name is…”


“Очень приятно”: “Nice to meet you.”

The literal translation is “very pleasant.”


Saying Goodbye-

“До свидания”: A formal way of saying “good-bye.”

A literal translation is “until we meet again.”


“Пока”: An informal way of saying “good-bye.”


“Спокойной ночи”: “Goodnight.”


“Передавай привет…”: “Say hello to…”


“Увидимся”: “See you.”
